By Dr. Gagan Deep Singh

AYURVEDA is a "SCIENCE of LIFE" where as Liver is an important organ, necessary for digestion in our body. In vedas it is named as YAKRIT and UNANI HAKEEM used to called this as JIGAR. It is located in the right quadrant of the Abdomen. According to Ayurved whenever we diagnose any disease we check the three DOSHAS of body that is Vatta(air) —Pitta(fire) and Kapha(water. And the Ayurveda sahintas says that the "Sathana" Meansthe site of Pitta (fire element)in body is Liver So while treating all the disease or infection in our body Aggravated due to increased of pitta dosha.

We have to firstly take care of liver and its functioning. JAUNDICE is also one of the particular Disease which is due to Dushit pitta (infection )in liver. According to Ayurveda Anaemia(PANDU) and Jaundice (KAMALA) are very inter related.

CHARAK also explained this fact that when PANDU is not being treated properly it may lead to JAUNDICE(kamala) both are also treated on same principles and FORMULATIONS. Both have common origin as well. Thus Jaundice (Kamala)can be Considered as an effect of untreated ANAEMIA (Pandu). Ways to balance liver disease through diet

I personally believe that 'everytime what we EAT or DRINK we are either feeding disease or fighting it. So diet has to be correct and right, one have to eat healthy to be healthy Eat organic, fresh—cooked and hot served food. Avoid toxins and eatables that are laced with preservatives and chemicals or processed. I always advised my patients not to have left over or frozen food specially kept in refrigerators, because liver has to work overtime to filter out all the toxins which eventually effect the health of liver. Alcohol is well proven cause of all sorts of liver diseases and need to be avoided even in small doses to balance the pitta dosha.

Red meat should also be avoided. The best way to prevent liver imbalance is to keep pitta dosha in balance. Eat a pitta pacifying diet in summers which should work as a cooling agent. For example: small quantity of water after every short intervals.

Juicy fruits (avoid juices, home made squashes according to weather Fresh cooked green vegetables Start up your day with stewed apple or pear, to set the metabolism and cleanse the liver.

Ways to balance liver disease through — Life style

My first prescription to every patient is "pehlenahana, phirkhaana" first bathing than only eat anything

Do not skip or delay your meals Dine two hours before sleeping

Sleeping less or untimely can also increase the chances of liver disorders

This may also lead to anger and behavior disturbance, which in result causes liver disease due to insomnia

Ayurveda believes that Negative emotions creates hormones that flood to liver with toxins. Regular meditation — work out and yoga is a good option Keeping yourself cool and easy is best way to recover fast from any disease or to remain healthy.
